Nature & Tropical forest
Situated in the southwest of Hainan Island bordering on the sea in the southwest and adjoining Dongfan and Changjiang in the north, Ledong County covers a total area of 2747 km2, with a population of 450,000. The government of the county is located in Baoyou Town.
The local products are mainly silk cotton, cashews, fresh-water eel and rattan and bamboo woven wares. Transportation in the county is mainly by land while it's Yinggehai, Wanglou and Lingtou ports offer freight transport by sea. The western route of Haikou-Sanya highways runs through the coastal area of the county on the southwest while the Maoyang-Jiusuo highway stretching from Jiusuo Town of Ledong County to Maoyang Town of Tongza City through Baoyou Town is the link that connects Ledong to the Haikou-Sanya highway central route.
Jianfengling Primeval Tropical Forest
Located on hour west of Sanya, Jianfengling National Forest Park is the largest and best preserved primeval tropical forest in China . With a diverse range of tropical vegetation and a beauty unspoiled by human intervention, this preserve is considered one of the rare ecological treasures of China.
A natural treasure-trove: Comprised of mountains, river valleys and lush tropical vegetation, the park is a place of undeveloped natural beauty. At 4660 feet, Jianfeng Mountain , is one of the tallest in Hainan . With over 2800 types of vascular plants and 4300 species of animals, Jianfengling Park is regarded by scientists as a natural genetic treasure-trove. Here you can find the reclusive cloud leopard and the black crowned gibbon (the latter found only in Hainan).
7 distinct vegetation zones: A trip to Jianfengling will provide visitors a glimpse of Hainan rarely seen by outsiders. A winding bus ride through the mountains brings guests to a scenic lake in the middle of the park, a perfect starting point for expeditions into the primeval forest. The national park is home to seven distinct vegetation zones. The central valley, encircled by 18 peaks of over 3300 feet, enjoys an average temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, providing a refreshing retreat from the heat of the beaches and lowlands.
